Scores of churches nationwide are planning an unusual outreach. They
plan to close their doors on October 12 in order to minister in their
communities.

The outreach is known as “Faith In Action” and involves more than
300 churches of various denominations. On October 12, participating
churches will shut their doors to help serve neighbors in need.

Steve Haas is vice president with World Vision, which helps coordinate
the outreach event. He says “Faith In Action” Sunday allows Christians
to take the message of the gospel to their communities.

“Well, as one pastor told us, after seeing the results of this and the
impact on his community, he said, ‘I feel like what we’re doing is
trying to take the church back 2,000 years,'” Haas explains. “In
essence that’s what we’re doing…”

Haas says Jesus’ entire life was spent ministering to the needs of
those around him, and that Christians today should follow Christ’s
example. Zondervan and Outreach are partnering with World Vision in
“Faith In Action.”
