Detroit Pastors: Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Should Consider Resignation (Video)

August 13, 2008

council-detroit-pastors.jpgAfter meeting this morning, the Council of Baptist Pastors has come forward to ask Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to consider resigning. The pastors say that while they have supported Mayor Kilpatrick in the past, recent developments in the cases against him are hurting the city. While they stopped short of calling for his resignation, the pastors did say that the Mayor needs to consider stepping aside for the good of the city.

As a Christian I am Embarrassed by the Baptist Pastors, They are pastors and they spoke only of the secular. What about the fact that the mayor showed faithlessness in his marriage, If the mayor can’t keep a vow made to his wife and his God , how can the secular world expect him to be faithful in his secular charge as a city leader? The truth is he has been just as faithless as mayor, even after asking for forgiveness.

Why did these spiritual men not mention the effect the mayor’s faithlessness could have on the youth of the city? What about the fact that our youth need to know that their are serious consequences for bad behavior? That a man who would be a leader, should have standards and morality. I am to assume that the opinion of the Baptist leaders in the matter of the mayor being able to discharge his duties is relevant because they are “men of God” with a Biblical perspective. We got a puffed up statement and self aggrandizement.
